Important Question!

Why is Nitrogen so important for us? Although, Oxygen is compulsory for all living things to breathe yet its only present 20 % in the atmosphere and Nitrogen 78%. Why?

  1. Scientists believe that most of the nitrogen in the air was carried out from deep inside the earth by volcanoes.

  2. It is needed to produce amino acids which form proteins. It is a major part of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). It is a major element in cellular waste (urea, urine, ammonia).

  3. Nitrogen is an important element in amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. Also Nitrogen is important in the building blocks of Nucleic (DNA and RNA).

  4. The air around us is made of several different gases. Mostly nitrogen (78%) and some oxygen (21%) and traces other gases like argon, water, carbon dioxide, ozone, and more.

These gases weren't always in our atmosphere, and they came from all sorts of different places. Scientists believe that most of the nitrogen in the air was carried out from deep inside the earth by volcanoes.

The nitrogen molecule is heavier than most other molecules in the atmosphere, so it tends to settle towards the bottom. Other lighter gases, like hydrogen or helium, would tend to the top of the atmosplere, where it is more likely to be lost to space. So the heavier gases like nitrogen and oxygen tend to stick around, since they are at the bottom of the atmosphere.

  5. Nitrogen is a major component of chlorophyll, which is used by plants in the process of photosynthesis to produce sugars, water and carbon dioxide.

It is also an essential component of amino acids which make up proteins. Some proteins act as structural units in the plant while others act as enzymes, catalysing biological reactions.

Finally, nitrogen is a significant component of DNA, the genetic material which allows cells to grow and replicate.

  6. It is needed to produce amino acids which form proteins. It is a major part of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). It is a major element in cellular waste. Nitrogen makes up part of Amino Acids and Nucleic Acids, both of which are used in
countless processes in our body's every day.because proteins are required for the life process that take place in the cells of all organisms.

  7. Nitrogen is the most abundant element in our planet’s atmosphere. Approximately 78% of the atmosphere is comprised of this important element. Nitrogen is used by lifeforms to carry out many of the functions of life. This element is especially important to plant life. Yet, nitrogen in its gaseous form is almost entirely unusable to lifeforms. It must first be converted or ‘fixed’ into a more usable form. The process of converting nitrogen is called fixation.

There are specialized bacteria whose function it is to fix nitrogen, converting it, so that it can be used by plants. There are still other bacteria who do the reverse. That is, they return nitrogen to is gaseous form.

After nitrogen is fixed, it can be absorbed and used by plants, and subsequently by animals.

  8. Nitrogen is an important element in amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. Also nitrogen is important in the building blocks of Nuclecic acids:DNA and RNA
It is also important for plants because Nitrogen gives because it helps there roots grow.We can not live without food and plants
give us food and without nitrogen plants can not live.

  11. Nitrogen, which forms 78.1 % of what we call air, is a huge part of our daily lives.
Nitrogen makes up part of Amino Acids and Nucleic Acids, both of which are used in
countless processes in our body's every day. In fact, 2.6 % of our body weight is
nitrogen. Plants need nitrogen for the same reasons as we do. Many animals we eat are herbivores, so if nitrogen ran out, plants would all die, the animals would follow, and we would go extinct as well.

  12. Nitrogen, KEEPS US ALIVE ALSO OXGYEN WITH OUT OXGYEN WE COULD NOT BE ALIVE IT WOULD BE LIKE MARS NO AIR

  13. Amino acids and Nucleic Acids are made of Nitrogen. These acids make proteins and are used in fertilizer. Nitrogen is found near the earth surface and plays a part in decomposition of dead organisms. Oxygen is used for respiration and plays a part in breaking food particles while Nitrogen contributes 2.6 % of our body weight.

  14. There is more Nitrogen in the air because plants need oxygen to grow and plants gives us healthy food and the gas oxygen which helps us to breathe. Nitrogen is an essential part of the human body. It is used to make the amino acids that we use every day. The human body gets nitrogen from protein in the diet.

  16. The majority of living things on Earth require nitrogen in order to survive. The problem is most creatures and plants cannot use nitrogen unless it is combined with other elements. Without the process of nitrogen, which puts elements and nitrogen together, the grand percentage of living things on Earth will not be able to live.

  17. Nitrogen is extremely important because our life and the life of plants and animals depend on it. Nitrogen makes up all proteins that needed.
