key terms related to the water cycle:

Class 4, please copy these important terms in your notebooks.

1. Evaporation:
Heat from the Sun causes water on Earth (in oceans, lakes etc) to evaporate (turn from liquid into gas) and rise into the sky. This water vapor collects in the sky in the form of clouds.
2. Condensation:
Condensation is the change of water from its gaseous form (water vapor) into liquid water. e.g. when the water vapours (in the gaseous state) fall from the clouds in the form of rain/sleet/snow.
3. Precipitation:
Water falls from the sky in the form of rain, snow, hail, or sleet, this process is called precipitation.
4. Collection:
Oceans and lakes collect water that has fallen. Water evaporates into the sky again and the cycle continues.
5. Transpiration:
Transpiration is the evaporation of water into the atmosphere from the leaves and stems of plants.
